BUILDING RENOVATION AT RUA DE STO AMARO 22  . LISBON  . 2019  . 320  m2 . - PRIVATE
The building is located on the southern slope of the Capela de Sto. Amaro in Lisbon, on a steep street. It is a construction from the end of the Sec. XIX, a classic “income building”, with 3 floors, housing one apartment per floor.
The state of conservation was reasonable, and many of the elements characteristic of the time were still in good condition such as stonework, metalwork and some carpentry elements such as doors and shutters.
The rectangular plan housed a restaurant on the ground floor, which abusively occupied the entire backyard. On the upper floors, the apartments had the kitchens and sanitary facilities concentrated at the back, and a succession of small compartments, two of which were interior.
The top floor, in the attic, enjoys a reasonable view and abundant light.
The strategy for the recovery of this small building boils down to the demolition of the construction in the street; concentration of water and sewage (kitchen and sanitary installation) inside the apartments, to free the facades, and the introduction of dormers over the existing openings for better use of the attic.
The result of the work depends on the good integration of the new contemporary elements with the constructive elements of the time.
