REHABILITATION OF HOUSE ON RUA FREIRE DE ANDRADE . PORTO  . 2012 .  70 m2.  PRIVATE . PHOTOGRAPHS - JOANA PINHEIRO
The house is located near Boavista in Porto and is part of a group of houses with similar characteristics: all built at the same time on a single floor with no characteristic elements to highlight. It occupies the entire lot with only one facing the street.
The small building was vacant and in ruins inside. The stone walls of the facades were in good condition but the roof was missing.
The main objective of the intervention was to increase the living area while maintaining the characteristics of the facade and roof. Thus, it was decided to maintain the stone walls of the facades, rebuild the roof and create a half-floor mezzanine, taking advantage of the gable roof configuration.
On the ground floor are the kitchen, open to the living room, the bathroom and the stairs leading to the mezzanine, where the bedroom is located, and which opens onto the living room.
The interior space, although small, becomes spacious and bright, not only because of the generous ceiling height of the room but also because there are no closed compartments, with the exception of the bathroom.
The materials used were the concrete on the ground floor, the floor in the bedroom, and the plaster walls painted in white. The kitchen ceiling was painted in dark gray reinforcing the spatial contrasts.
