The program of this project foresaw the recovery of an apartment in a Pombaline building and its connection to the fraction that occupied part of the upper floor. As we are a family with four small children, we chose to dedicate the upper floor to children, and free up space on the entrance floor for the common areas, double bedroom and guest bedroom.
The aim of the project was to recover the original spatiality of this apartment, now possible due to the generosity of the available space. We placed the rooms along the entire south façade, facing the river and kept the kitchen in the original space where there is a huge stone chimney. The biggest challenge was the introduction of a new staircase, which we chose to place in a secondary corridor and parallel to the main corridor.
The structure was maintained and reinforced, but the floor was already too deteriorated to be repaired, so we opted for a new floor in Riga; the doors and shutters were recovered.
