The project carried out concerns the remodeling of an apartment in a corner building at the end of the sec. XIX located at the intersection between R. Bernardo Lima and Rua Bernardim Ribeiro in Lisbon, which was in poor condition.
The apartment occupies almost the entirety of the corner front with the particularity of the corner being rounded and having in this area a set of three openings that emphasize it. The spatial structure is very clear: a long corridor that crosses the entire house and that distributes it to a series of rooms adjacent to the façade, with one window each. In the corner there is a larger space and the kitchen and two bathrooms facing the back.
The proposal takes advantage of this clear structure and retains much of the interior division. A wall is removed between the two spaces next to the entrance which, together with the corner room, form the social part of the house. The kitchen maintains its location, with the original chimney in operation, the bathrooms are also restored to their original position, and a third bathroom is created, which will serve only the last bedroom.
The materials used were chosen to integrate into a building of that time: limestone, wood, tiles and hydraulic mosaic. Whenever possible, the original elements such as shutters and doors were recovered.
